The Autumn Statement 2023 (AS23) will be announced by the Chancellor on Wednesday 22 November 2023. Our usual briefing note and analysis, together with any updates to the MTFP model, will be issued on the day itself.
In this webinar, we will review AS23 and focus in particular on any implications for local government funding. We will also have had a chance to see the analysis from the Institute for Fiscal Studies (IFS) and the Resolution Foundation.
Latest data from the Office of Budget Responsibility (OBR) on the public finances. They are certain to remain very tight and this provides the context to funding from 2025-26 onwards.
2024-25 Business rates multiplier. A decision on whether to freeze or index the multiplier is likely to be announced in AS23, with the new possibility that the small and standard business rating multipliers will be de-coupled in 2024-25.
Funding announcements. We are not expecting anything specific for local government, but it is possible that the Chancellor will announce some funding increases for the NHS or other priorities.
