After the tumult of last year's Fair Funding Review, we are now turning our attention to the next budget-setting cycle and the longer term funding picture for local government.  We are currently working on an updated version of our MTFP model, and this will be released alongside the webinar.  The webinar itself will be used to provide an overview of the new model, and to explain how authorities can use it to support their financial planning and budget-setting.

The webinar will cover:

  • Extending the forecast period from 2030-31 out to 2035-36, and simplifying data from the pre-2020 period (whilst allowing authorities to see long-term trends).
  • Technical changes to the settlement in 2027-28 (adjustment to the Business Rates Baseline for RV2026).  We are not expecting any changes to the core settlement over the next 3 years, but will look at where there might be changes.
  • Forecasts for local taxation income (business rates and council tax), and Band D thresholds.
  • Look ahead to spending review in 2027, and possible implications for public sector funding and local government.
  • Potential impact of future funding reviews (including baseline resets and funding updates), most likely in 2029-30 (and again in the early 2030s).
